Creative sex shop responses to sex work ban in Vietnam

Vietnam blow job cafe om

A lot more than a cuppa is being served here, as you can clearly see.

Despite being officially outlawed the commercial sex scene in Vietnam is actually quite large. At times it seems that this industry, which only half-operates in the shadows while still being known to exist by almost everyone, is unofficially tolerated. At least by the local authorities. Every so often though a wave of repression like the Saigon sex shop crackdown I reported on several months ago breaks out to dispel the notion that it is in any way tolerated in Vietnam as it is in a place like Thailand.

As with the war on drugs in the US though the battle against the sale of sex in Vietnam is not very effective, for what should be to readers of this site obvious reasons. Vietnamese sex workers and related entrepreneurs have come up with various ways to skirt the laws against sex work or at least make the practices a little less obvious. In the process they’ve come up with some pretty unique types of sex shops. In part this reminds me of the way the Japanese blowjob bars came into existence. It also resembles the list of sex shops I’d like to see that I concocted earlier, though in Vietnam the creative spirit resulted in real life facilities.

Here’s a list of the various types of sex shops that have sprung up in Vietnam.

Hot toc – These are literally barber shops. Not every one offers sexual services. Not even all that have a staff of beautiful women offer sexual services. The ones that do however specialize either in blowjobs or handjobs in the back. I’ve mentioned these in my report on blowjob bars around the world. The normal price in these kinds of shops seems to be around 100,000 ($5) but prices can vary.

Càphê ôm – Om means hug in Vietnamese. Caphe is exactly what it sounds like. You can use your imagination to figure out what goes on from there, but just in case you don’t have much of one I’ll help spell it out for you. Coffee shops are ubiquitous in Vietnam but only a few of them offer extra services. The ones that do have women on staff who provide some level of hand or oral relief while or after you enjoy your cup of Vietnamese ice coffee. The shops themselves provide a certain level of privacy from the street but once inside it’s a lot like a Japanese or Thai blowjob bar with the action taking place more or less out in the open. I’ve heard that some provide full service but I’m not familiar with those so I can’t confirm. The standard shops charge around 100,000 Dong ($5) for a bit of fun.

Bia ôm – You already know what om means. How about Bia? That’s the word for beer. These places operate like cafe om except that the beverage on tap is a little different.

Karaokê ôm – Yet another set up similar to the caphe om, the karaoke om provides the additional service of singing. For a guy like me who isn’t too keen on off key singing that’s more of a detriment than a benefit but others seem to like it. Since it’s organized toward locals anyway all that matters is that they enjoy.

Võng ôm – Vong is the Vietnamese word for a hammock. Some enterprising Vietnamese people have taken to stringing up hammocks and renting them out to people looking for a place to lay down for a bit with a slight amount of privacy. These are most common in Ho Chi Minh City and seem to be a favorite of students looking for a place to spend some time with their significant other or play pal but there is always the option of hiring a gal for her services at a place like this.

Other facilities that may or not exist include “tắm ôm” (paying a gal for a romp in the sea) and “ráy tai ôm” (a place where a guy can play with a girl’s tits while she cleans his ears). I’m not knowledgeable enough to know if these are real or imagined.

Of course there are also lots of “traditional” avenues to pursue pay for play. These include the hostess bars, bars and discos, escorts, massage parlors, street walkers and women who ride around on motorcycles looking for customers.

Today is Valentine’s Day, the holiday when couples celebrate their affection for one another by purchasing things. This demonstrates the unstoppable power of love. Perhaps even more powerful is the power of lust and the drive for money. As this article shows, the sex industry is persistent, even (or even especially) in places where it’s illegal. It’s not called the oldest profession in the world for nothing.

Phu Ngoc Hot Toc

Ho Chi Minh City has a large adult entertainment scene. As reported in some detail on this site over the years there are several shops around the city catering to guys looking for fun. Due to a somewhat repressive atmosphere most of the shops do not advertise themselves openly. They don’t typically advertise in languages other than Vietnamese either. Because of this many foreigners fail to recognize what is going on around them.

Vietnamese proprietors have developed all sorts of innovative methods to get around the local ban on sex work. One of the things that emerged from the peculiar situation in Vietnam is the hot toc om which look like hairdressers but provide a lot more.

The previously reviewed Thien Phu located at 49 Nguyen Phi Khanh was for years one of the most popular hot toc massage shops among foreign customers in the city. A few months ago that shop closed its doors without even leaving as much as a notice behind. Other similar businesses on the same street still continue to operate.

Phu Ngoc at 68 Nguyen Phi Khanh is located almost directly across the street from the old Thien Phu shop. It is marked by a simple sign with the shops names and some Vietnamese phrases about massage. A Vietnamese man guards the front door and calls out to guys who pass by with a smooching sound.

Men who respond to the kissing calls or otherwise walk into the recessed entrance are let through a sliding glass door into a small barbershop in the lobby where three or four Vietnamese women of average looks can usually be found lounging around. These women typically wear black dresses but they do not have the kinds of tight sexy uniforms the women at Thien Phu used to wear.

After customers select a service provider from among the gals in the barbershop area they are quickly guided up a set of stairs to a higher floor. There they find a row of booths separated from each other with frosted glass. These booths which are similar to those found at Benny’s are on the small side and have room only for a massage table and hair washing sink. The booths are so small in fact that tall customers may find their feet pressed up against the frosted glass walls when they lay down on the massage table.

Once guided into one of the booths customers are instructed to strip down and wait. The service providers then go to gather their supplies like mouthwash and wet naps. Once the providers return they typically provide the kinds of oral services typical of the hot toc massage shops.

While actual services provided ultimately come down to those providing them it can generally be said that the women at Phu Ngoc typically aren’t as adventurous or vigorous as the ladies at 49 Nguyen Phi Khanh used to be. They provide services as expected but they don’t normally go the extra mile as women at the shuttered shop across the street often did. They don’t always take off their entire kits either with some preferring to only pull down the tops of their dresses while with customers.

Once service is completed customers are cleaned up and guided back down the stairs. There is normally no manager around so customers simply pay their service providers directly. The house fee is 200,000 VND ($8.80 USD) and a tip of around the same amount is also expected. Most customers find it easiest just to pay 350,000 to 400,000 Dong altogether on the way out.

Phu Ngoc is a lot like most other hot toc oms in the city. It is one among many similar shops on the same street where it doesn’t necessarily stand out. As more mainstream businesses and residences continue to appear on the street shops like Phu Ngoc may close up or relocate. In the meantime they operate as they have for years though prices have gone up a bit recently. Two stars.

Phu Ngoc. 68 Nguyen Phi Khanh, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Open seven days a week from around noon until evening.

The Hostess Bars of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam in 2017

Ho Chi Minh City hostess bars

I first reported on Ho Chi Minh City’s hostess bars way back in 2013 when this website was just getting off the ground. The focus of that post was on a string of hostess bars on Hai Ba Trung. After many of those bars were hit hard in a major crackdown I published another report on the hostess bars of Ho Chi Minh City.

Fox hostess Bar Ho Chi Minh City

That last report appeared more than three years ago. A lot of things have changed in the time that has passed though much has stayed the same. While I am constantly publishing information on new places around the world I do like to continue past coverage whenever possible. Thus I present you with the following information on the state of Saigon’s hostess bars today.

The last bar to survive on Hai Ba Trung was the infamous “91.” That bar went the way of the others and eventually closed too. Today the spot is home to one of the city’s many coffee shops. Most of the hostess bar action today in concentrated in a handful of other areas.

Pasteur street is probably home to the most hostess bars. They are all bunched together on a few blocks of Pasteur near the intersection with Ham Nghi. Most of the Pasteur bars are oriented toward in bar entertainment. They do not operate as places where women can find guys to pay them for sex.

Fox at 82 Pasteur is home to many women including quite a few real lookers. The ladies are fun and friendly and they dress very well. Most can speak some English. The bar is popular and can get a bit overcrowded which makes it difficult to move around. There is no bar fine system in place but some of the women have been known to meet with guys they find amiable outside of the bar. Occasionally Fox has some professional dancers come in to strut their stuff on the bar in sexy outfits. Although those ladies have curvy and mostly man made bodies they don’t get nude and usually depart right after their performance is over.

Willow nearby is a long but quite bar that never really seems to get going. Apparently the entire staff quit their jobs at once a few weeks ago so things will have to change one way or another.

Rock Bar at 68 Pasteur is one of the most popular bars on the street. Quite a few ladies work the bar and they are for the most part attractive but the staff seems to be a little older on average than those working at other bars on the street. There are stripper poles on the bar but any sort of dancing there happens rarely. Still the place seems to be loved by customers and it gets quite filled inside many nights. The best thing at Rock Bar seems to be the pool table. Customers able to beat one of the ladies on staff receive a free pint of beer.

Diamond Bar at 94 Pasteur probably has the sexiest women of any bar in the area both in terms of looks and dress. It’s not out of the ordinary to see the gals at Diamond dressed up in costume or other revealing outfits. Despite that it never seems to get very crowded. That may be due to the fact that a lot of the ladies at Diamond Bar are surprisingly shy especially towards new comers. Most can speak some English but there are a few who have very limited English skills. Except for the lack of a bar fine system Diamond Bar is reminiscent of some of the hostess bars in Thailand such as those situated on Soi 33 in Bangkok. That’s especially true when the professional dancers show up to get down on the bar in skimpy dress.

Check In is a new bar on Ham Nhgi itself. Just around the corner from the other bars on Pasteur it is a quite nice place inside. It is run by a local woman who is friendly and eager to meet and party with customers though she does seem to have a habit of drinking quite a bit. There are five or six women on staff at Check In in their twenties including one or two with absolutely amazing bodies. All of the women are friendly and can speak at least basic English though most claim to be virgins or otherwise refuse to go anywhere with customers they don’t know. In reality many of the women do spend time with local and foreigner guys outside of the bar though they seem to look more for a dating situation than a lump sum of money.

One street over on Ho Tung Mau there is another smaller concentration of bars with a similar business model. They aren’t as popular as the bars on Pasteur as a general rule but they do have their fans and followers.

Saigon Retro at 113 Ho Tung Mau is the typical example of the hostess bars in this area. It doesn’t stand out in any real regard but it does have a pool, darts, and a staff filled with some really lovely ladies who are mostly in their twenties.

Friends nearby is quite similar. While there isn’t necessarily anything special about this bar it has a dedicated set of expat regulars who can often be found in the bar. That said the place is still very welcoming of newcomers and the staff contains some really sweet ladies who don’t seem to have been hardened by their work.

Rumors Pub which opened last year is considered the best bar on Ho Tung Mau by many and for good reason. While the bar is often quiet inside the place has a large staff of more than a dozen women. The ladies of course range in looks but most are quite attractive. On top of that they are all very friendly up to and including the woman in charge of the place. Rumors is a lot like the hostess bars of Phnom Penh.

There are now more hostess bars on the famous backpacker strip Bui Vien then there ever were. At one time there were just a few of these pubs but now they are blossoming up and down the street. Oddly enough most of the women in this tourist centered area do not speak English.

There are many of these bars and none stand out much from one another. Lady drinks can be on the expensive side at around the equivalent of about five US dollars. Still a mostly western foreign clientele continues to visit these bars in enough numbers to keep them and open and motivate them to expand. One reason may be that quite a few of the ladies in these bars will go out with customers to a nearby hotel for around 2,000,000 Vietnamese Dong ($88 USD). There are no hard and fast rules behind this however and it all seems to depend on the circumstance.

As a side note most of the many hotels on Bui Vien are decidedly not girl friendly hotels despite the growing presence of girlie bars.

Kim’s Tavern over on Huynh Thuc Khang has nice enough looking ladies inside and draws a lot of customers. At times guys do hook up with women outside of the bar but normally only after spending inordinate amounts of money. It seems to be a fairly normal Ho Chi Minh City hostess bar all considered.

Finally there is one bar mentioned in a past report still survives. That’s VIC at 55 Ho Xuan Huong in District 3. It remains a popular place with Asian customers who are mostly expats or businessmen in town for the long haul. Only a few of the women on staff can speak English to any real extent and they seem to be the least attractive ladies in the place. The bar has pool and a fairly large staff of women. Some of the women will go home with some of the guys for an expected tip of around 2 million Dong though only after the bar closes at midnight.

The previously reviewed Bar 29 over on Dong Khoi is one of the last of the original naughty style bars in Saigon. One can only wonder how the place remains open in the heart of an area that is constantly being developed with luxury shopping and dining. Perhaps the hefty fees levied onto anyone who walks into the bar have something to do with it. On the other hand such fees and the kind of attitude behind those setting them may be one of the reasons the old style hostess bars have for the most part disappeared from Ho Chi Minh City.

Interview with a Vietnamese massage parlor worker

The list of interviews with people in and around the sex industry continues to grow here on Rockit Reports. Dozens of people have done question and answer sessions for this site. Some have been very interesting.

With millions of people involved in the industry in some way or another there will always be more people to interview. Alas there are also numerous other topics and locations to cover. I have always tried to strike the best balance possible though now it seems that effort expended toward doing interviews like this is not as fruitful as effort spent writing about other things.

Sexy Vietnamese massage

The recent publication of a four part series of books containing the interviews I have done over the years puts the icing on the cake for me. While I will most likely continue to publish at least some interviews in the future I will no longer expend large amounts of time and energy trying to track down and convince people to do interviews for this site or have the decency to make good on their promises to do so. The following back and forth with a Vietnamese massage worker expands on a piece I published years ago about Vietnamese massage parlors. It will be one of the last posts of its kind here for some time so I hope you will enjoy.

How old are you and where are you from?

I’m from the Mekong Delta. I am 19.

How would you describe the work you do?

I do massage.

Is that it? You don’t massage penises?

Yes I do that when the customer is good and gives a tip. But I don’t have sex or anything bad.

You never have sex with customers?

No! I am a virgin. I never had sex with anyone. I am Vietnamese. We should wait until we marry to have sex.

Wow, that is surprising. Are many of your coworkers virgins?

I don’t know. They should be because none of them are married. But I don’t think they are. I hear them talk about sex a lot.

With customers?

No! We can’t do that. We will be fired or go to jail. We only do massage.

But some massage places in Vietnamese offer sex or blowjobs.

Really? I don’t know about that. I just work here.

How did you get this job?

My friend worked here. She is from my town. She told me to come here and make money for my family. I didn’t know the job until I came here.

So what did you think?

I didn’t think anything. It is just a job. I can make money.

Is it difficult?

Not really. But I stay here 12 hours. So it is a long time. When there are no customers it is boring. When there are customers the time goes faster.

How much do you get paid?

It depends. If the customer gets a VIP room I make more. If he gets a regular room I get less. Some customers tip a lot. Some are very bad. They don’t tip.

What is your average monthly income?

It changes. On a good month I will make 340,000,000 Dong. Sometimes I will make less. Sometimes I make more.

Do you feel strange about massaging penises since you are a virgin?

I am not having sex. I just do the massage. It is the same as any massage. Here I massage your leg. Here I massage your penis. For me it is not special.

But for the customers it must be special. That’s why they tip for that service right?

I guess. I don’t know. But they get excited. Some guys are too excited. They want to touch me everywhere or kiss.

Do you allow that?

No. They cannot do that here.

What kind of customers do you get?

Many kinds.

What is the average age? Do you see many foreigners? Or only Vietnamese.

All kinds of men come here. Some are twenty. Many are forty or fifty. There are many Vietnamese and Viet Kieu. There are also Koreans, Japanese, Singaporeans and some Chinese. Also some white men. The Vietnamese just want a massage. The Viet Kieu want special massages. The Koreans are rude and never tip. I don’t like to massage them.

But the Korean look and Korean guys seem popular in Vietnam now.

Maybe in drama or music. But the old Korean guys who come here are no good.

How long do you plan to work here?

I don’t know. Maybe one more year. I want to find a husband and stop this work. I know it is not good but I need to help my family.

You are very beautiful. I think you can easily find a husband. Do you think you will find one at work?

I hope so.

Review: 15B/22 Spa — Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

$

15B/22 Spa is a massage parlor for men in the middle of Ho Chi Minh City. Some people refer to the place as Tokyo Spa in English. There is another place nearby officially called Tokyo Spa. It could be rather confusing if it wasn’t for 15B/22 Spa naming itself after its street address.

15b/22 Spa Ho Chi Minh City

Fittingly 15B/22 Spa is located at 15b/22 Le Thanh Ton Street in Saigon’s District 1. Le Thanh Ton is a main road in the city. This massage parlor is located in a small alley called “Hem 15B Le Thanh Ton” that leads off of Le Thanh Ton near the corner with Chu Manh Trinh.

The small alley where 15B/22 Spa is located is also home to several other massage parlors. In fact massage parlors are scattered all over this part of town that is frequented by a lot of Japanese people.

Customers access 15B/22 Spa by entering Hem 15B Le Thanh Ton from Le Thanh Ton Street and turning left. 15B/22 sits at the end of the alley.

While 15B/22 Spa is not the easiest place to find in the city by any means it does have a large sign in front of the shop that has the shop’s name and address. The sign says the shop opens at 10:00 am but doesn’t list a closing time. Business cards for the shop available inside say the shop opens at 10:00 am but confusingly also say the shop is open 24 hours.

The women on staff at 15B/22 Spa are all Vietnamese. There are usually six or seven women working at any given time. Most of the gals are in their twenties and relatively attractive. None are overweight or otherwise bad looking. They tend to hang around in the front of the shop while they wait for customers. Usually they wear the same kinds of dresses you might expect to see in one of Ho Chi Minh City’s hostess bars.

Once customers enter 15B/22 Spa they are offered a massage in English, Japanese or Vietnamese depending on their appearance. The women carry a menu that lists a massage for $30 USD or 600,000 Vietnamese Dong. At the moment 600,000 Dong is equal to about $26 US dollars so the Vietnamese price is less expensive.

After customers pay and select a lady on staff they are led up a lengthy flight of stairs to one of many private rooms in the building. The rooms are large and spacious with high ceilings. They contain little more than a shelf, a massage table and more often than not a few mosquitoes.

The rooms are a little worn but that is to be expected since the building is probably older than most of the people reading this. That said the place is relatively clean kept. There are much worse massage parlors around.

As mentioned the rooms are private. They have doors with large glass windows but most of the glass is frosted. Someone could potentially look inside but first they would have to go through the herculean task of climbing the stairs that lead to the rooms.

Once customers enter the room they are told to strop down and lay on the massage table. Towels are provided to cover them up. The women at 15B/22 Spa typically deliver mediocre body rubs at best but most of the customers are looking for more than a massage so that doesn’t seem to matter.

The service providers at 15B/22 Spa usually offer extras to customers not long after they start their rub downs. There are no set rates. The service providers negotiate on their own. Typically they ask for 1,000,000 Dong ($45 USD) for hand service, 2,000,000 Dong ($90 USD) for oral and 3,000,000 ($135 USD) for full service.

The women are generally skilled at their work and some even seem to enjoy it. They are prepared for activities though they don’t always keep their supplies with them in the room. This may be meant for their own safety.

I can’t be sure but I would guess that the management at 15B/22 Spa would claim they have nothing to do with any extra services in a pinch. They would probably say they didn’t even know they are offered. I have no special information that would make me think otherwise.

Each room has a shower but the women don’t seem too insistent on customers using them. It’s not like a Bangkok oily massage parlor where every session starts and finishes with a shower. The showers at 15B/22 Spa are there for customers to use at their own discretion.

15B/22 Spa is one of many Ho Chi Minh City massage parlors where extras are offered on a regular basis. I have read reports that there isn’t much of a scene in Vietnam but the existence of many places including some right in the middle of Saigon prove otherwise.

Review: Tro Lai — Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

Tro Lai is a small adult oriented lounge in Ho Chi Minh City. It is what the Vietnamese refer to as a caphe om. Directly translated that means it is a hugging cafe. A few days ago I reported on Chile’s coffee with legs. I have reported on Vietnam’s caphe om in the past but I have never reviewed any shops specifically.

Tro Lai is located at 698 Pham The Hien street in the city’s District 8. It is one of several similar shops on the same strip including a place just steps away called Tro Lai 2 at 726 Pham The Hien. These places probably would not be obvious to the casual observer at all. They typically have a sign outside with nothing more than a name. There is no indication of what goes on inside anywhere on the exterior.

ca phe om in ho chi minh city

Caphe om in this part of town normally sit back from the street. They have open fronts yet they are difficult or impossible to see into from the street. Tro Lai is no exception.

The place has a glass front with doors that are usually kept open. Inside there are several rows of the kinds of lounge chairs that are common in low rent cafes all around Vietnam and Cambodia. There are also two or three women on staff who are there to entertain the male customers who enter.

The lighting is kept low though it is definitely possible to see the entire place once inside. Some type of techno style music plays in a never ending stream in the background.

The women at Tro Lai range in age in looks from average twenty-five-year-olds to very worn out women in their thirties or forties. They wear dresses or shorts and tight blouses. Although none can speak English they do welcome foreigners who happen to wander inside.

When customers enter they are asked to order a drink. Although the place is technically a cafe coffee is not actually available. Drinks like cans of local beer poured over ice in a glass are the usual fair. Cans of non-alcoholic beverages are sometimes also available but there are no guarantees. A drink costs around 60,000 Dong ($2.64 USD).

After a customer sits down and orders he is joined by one of the available women. With only two or three women on staff the customers don’t necessarily get to choose who they would like to sit with. Whoever does accompany them usually sits on their lap though occasionally they will sit next to customers instead.

Normally the women flirt with customers or make small talk but that is not possible with customers who do not speak Vietnamese. The women do not typically come right out and offer sex to customers either though some will confess their availability when asked in a polite and discreet manner. Typically that means they will tell a customer they can go to a hotel for 800,000 Dong ($35 USD) or something similar.

Some of the women will not offer sexual services or at the very least reserve such service for selected customers. Others are a lot more open. The older and more desperate looking women are the most willing which is not surprising.

No sexual services seem to be available inside the cafe itself from any of the women on staff. There are lots of tales of all kinds of sexual activities going on in caphe oms. It is often joked about by Vietnamese people. In reality there are some places where action is available and many others where it is absolutely is not. These days the places that do not offer any services on premises seem to be more common.

Unlike some other more popular hugging cafes nearby Tro Lai never seems to get very busy. That may be due to the small staff though other factors probably also come into play. I can’t profess to have any special insight into the mind of the average Vietnamese caphe om customer.

Tro Lai, 698 Pham The Hien, Quan 8, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Open every day from afternoon until late night. Click here for a map.

Blowjob bars around the world: Where they are, how they work

$
0
0

In some parts of the world blowjob bars in one form or another are a standard part of the pay for play scene. Though they share some commonalities that stretch across borders there also differences between suck shops at both the individual and national levels. I will try to explain how blowjob bars work in different places.

Blowjob Bar Thailand

I first published this post at the end of 2012. It seems fitting to update the post now at the end of 2017 as so much information on blowjob bars has been published here over the last five years. This entry consists of a condensed version of the information available in the book “Blow Job Bars: The Complete Report” Those interested interested in the subject should refer to that book.

Blowjob bars

A blowjob bar is exactly what it sounds like: a bar where guys can go to get a blowjob for a set fee. In some places this happens in a private or semi-private booth. In other places services are rendered in a private room. In still other places oral sex is performed right out in the open in plain view of whoever may be around.

Theoretically the women who work at blowjob bars should be better at sucking cock than most others. This is often the case but there are many exceptions. Blowjob bars sometimes act as a place of last refuge for women too unattractive or old to work elsewhere in the sex industry or those in need of a quick buck. Surprisingly the women working at these places regardless of country tend to be quite friendly. As a general role they are even more – and more genuinely – genial than a lot of strippers in countries like the United States.

Thailand

Both Pattaya and Bangkok are infamous for their pay for play scenes. Accordingly there are plenty of places in both cities where guys can get their swords swallowed with little to no hassle. There are at least 1,000 Thai blowjob bar workers.

In Bangkok the most accessible blowjob bar in existence today is probably Wood Bar which was formerly and famously known as Dr BJ’s. The shop is set up a bit like a dentist’s office. Customers walk in and chose a service provider from the lineup. Then they follow their gal to a small private booth that comes complete with a sink and reclining chair. In the booth they strip down, get their dick and balls washed in the sink, then sit down and receive their blowjob.

The price at Wood Bar is 700 baht ($21 USD) for a head job from a “nurse” and 1000 baht ($30 USD) for the same service from a “consultant.” It’s not clear to me what the difference is. Of course there are extras beyond the blowjob available at a higher rate. Customers who ask for full service pay more and get access to a bedroom.

Magic Table is a few doors down from Wood Bar. It’s an old go go bar with elevated stages surrounded by stools. Customers who sit on these stools quickly realize what makes the tables magic. They’re covered with mirrors and reveal that the women dancing in skirts and bikini tops don’t wear panties. Oral service is available in two VIP rooms in the back of the bar for 1000 Baht.

Afterskool is a full fledged go go bar on the Soi Cowboy strip that is also known for extras. In exchange for several lady drinks and a tip of around 1000 Baht some of the women on staff are known to blow customers discreetly in the bench seats or over in the “naughty boy corner” next to the bar.

Lolita’s on Sukhumvit Soi 8 is another well known hands-free bar in Bangkok. It’s been around for a while and the going rate for a suck and shoot there is now 800 Baht ($24 USD) up from 600 Baht just a few years ago. The women at Lolita’s wear plaid skirts and uniform tops and stand in front of their shop waiting for customers. The bar inside is usually empty. Service is provided on chair with pull around curtains in a room upstairs. The bar is easy to see with a neon sign and it is located between the On8 Hotel and a busy 7 Eleven.

Only steps away sits Kasalong on Sukhumvit Soi 6. Opened by a renegade who left Lolita’s the bar is much larger than its nearby competitor and comes complete with a pool table though that doesn’t ever seem to be used anymore. The many women who work at Kasalong wear light blue skirts with matching uniform tops and wait in chairs out front for customers. Service takes place in several private booths upstairs that come complete with sinks and couches that at this point have become pretty worn out. For years Kasalong asked 100 Baht less than Lolilta’s but today it also charges for 800 Baht.

Som’s Haven on Sukhumvit Soi 14 not far from the massive and modern Terminal 21 mall is another BJ bar that was started by a former Lolita’s employee. It is also located in a large building. The many women on staff usually sit out front waiting for customers. Customers can hang out with the gals in the lounge just inside and enjoy cheap drinks or go upstairs to one of the many private cubicles where oral is offered. Som’s is one of the least expensive bar of its kind in the capital city since it charges a mere 700 Baht per session.

Another less popular bar is the Lollipop 1 on Soi 10 next to the Paradiso Hotel. The Lollipop 2 no longer exists but the Lollipop 1 has been keeping the name going for years. The women on staff sit in front of the bar waiting for customers or play pool on the outdoor billiards table. The table seems to get more play than the women though they do offer oral upstairs in the large but very worn out building’s private area. The price is 800 Baht.

Kimochil BJ on Thonglor Soi 3 bills itself as a new kind of blowjob bar. It’s actually more of a massage parlor. Off the beaten path the place has a large lobby where customers are presented with a menu offering various services including a 40 minutes massage and oral happy ending for 1400 Baht ($42 USD) and optional facial ending for 500 Baht more. The private rooms upstairs are a lot less luxurious but perhaps fitting for the situation. They include mattresses on the floor and in suite showers.

There are also some Asian oriented blowjob bars in the Sukhumvit area of Bangkok that tend to hire more attractive but less skilled ladies. They also charge more. Bit Style has gone through several iterations but today it bills itself as a fantasy massage shop. Oral service is still available on benches in private booths at 1300 Baht ($39 USD). The increasingly popular 7Heaven on Sukhumvit Soi 33 looks a lot like a Japanese pink salon and has a lot attractive Thai women in their early 20’s on staff. They charge 1300 Baht for a session with one lady and 2500 Baht ($75 USD) for a double.

Star of Light on Patpong 2 offers a similar service to the Sukhumvit bars though there is a lot less privacy. This little shop contains nothing more than a short bar, two booths and a tiny bathroom. The mostly veteran staff sit outside waiting for customers. They perform their services for 700 Baht either in the bar on the booths or in the bathroom.

One floor up from Star of Light sits the little known The World which is also variously known as Kob’s Place, Linda’s Place and Linda Place. The World is larger than Star of Light but even more worn down. There are only a handful of women on staff including a bartender. Action is variously priced and seemingly negotiable and service takes place either in the bench seats along the wall or in a small curtained off area in the back.

There are two more blowjob bars one street over on Patpong 1. Both are upstairs and have street level entrances guarded by doormen who ring bells to let everyone inside know when someone is headed up the stairs. Rose’s is one of the oldest blowjob bars in all of Bangkok and the staff reflects that. The shop has some bench seats along the walls and a decrepit old bar and not much else but suck jobs are offered right inside for 1000 Baht. Kangaroo is a slightly more modern bar and has a television in the corner playing porn. The handful of women who work there offer oral service for 800 Baht but they are less likely to perform in public. They prefer to use a small room in the back out of the prying eyes of other customers and the ladyboy bartender.

There are no other blowjob bars in Bangkok today that I know of though there were several other blowjob bars in years gone by.

There are many blowjob bars scattered around Pattaya, with big concentrations on Soi Full Love Inn and the open sex market known as Soi 6. They often have names that reveal their purpose. Places like “Pump Station” let you know exactly what they are about. “Kittens” doesn’t have such a straightforward name but the services are identical.

There was a time when customers could enter one of these shops, grab a drink, pick a girl, and get sucked off right at the bar, in a booth or in a semi-private room for a few hundred baht. The public suck stuff seems to have greatly died down though in a few cases it has actually just moved a few feet over.

Thailand blowjob bar

These bars usually have a bevy of women sitting outside of them waiting for customers. They range in looks from average to over the hill with a few stunners mixed in for good measures. Once in a while a real beauty will work in a Pattaya BJ bar but most of the best lookers are working in go go bars where they can make big bucks.

Soi 13/2 which is also known as Soi Post Office is home to several old beer bars that double as pickle polishing pubs. Golden Girl had a long history on the street before it shuttered in 2014. Two other bars on the street called The Pump Station 1 and The Pump Station 2 operate in similar fashion though they have more women on staff. They charge 800 Baht for oral in private rooms above the bars. Neither of those bars operate like the original Pump Station which had a bar with curtained covered cutouts underneath so customers could get blown while imbibing their beers!

Kittens on Soi 13/2 is a newer bar with a younger and generally more attractive staff. The women are mainly in their twenties and although they always bring it up immediately like their counterparts at Wood Bar they do offer oral services in private rooms upstairs for 800 Baht.

Pattaya’s Soi 6 is home to several short time bars that offer oral services including My Friend You, Full Moon and Click Bar. The price is typically 800 Baht. At My Friend You and Click Bar the services are rendered on couches inside the bar that are only surrounded by flimsy curtains. At King Kong the action takes place in a private room accessed through a secret door in the wall. Customers who want service in a private room above any of these bars have to pay an additional 300 to 500 Baht for the privilege though that also usually includes full service as a matter of course.

The aforementioned Lolita’s in Bangkok once has aspirations of being a blowjob bar chain as evidenced by the Lolita’s on Soi Chaiyapoon in Pattaya. This Lolita’s opened after another Lolita’s on LK Metro closed when the owner passed away. The women on staff wear uniforms like the ladies in Bangkok and offer oral in private rooms with reclining chairs upstairs for 700 Baht. There is also a large bar and a pool table inside the bar that only occasionally gets some use.

The Telephone Bar on Soi Batman and its sister bar Bar de La Poste on Soi Lengkee offer an interesting take on the blowjob bar model. They have locked doors so customers have to ring a bell to gain entry. Once inside every customer who enters or leaves is greeted in unison by the women on staff. When a customer buys a lady drink the women they buy the drink for drops her top and gives the customer access to her breasts. Oral services are available in private areas for 650 Baht ($19.50 USD) and occasionally right at the bar.

Bliss Lounge on Third Road is a blowjob bar in a converted restaurant. Because of that it looks very nice inside with well decorated walls, a big bar and a quality pool table. The women on staff wait for customers in front of the shop and offer oral services in private booths upstairs for 700 Baht.

Thai blow job

Soi Full Love Inn has become a sort of blow row in recent years as several Gentlemen’s Clubs have opened in one concentrated area. These clubs are staffed by attractive women who usually wear uniforms of some kind. They are clean and modern and have big bars and lots of semi-private booths. They also have private rooms upstairs. The front doors remained locked until customers rings buzzers to be let inside. That allows for all sorts of activities to happen right on the main floor. Prices are usually 700 Baht for oral on the ground floor or 1300 for more private action upstairs.

At one point there were only two bars of this type on Soi Full Inn. That has changed. The Gentlemen’s clubs on the strip today include Pirates, Club 4, 007, Club Sin, J Club, and the new Carre Blanc.

Other bars around town like the popular Excite Club and Club M also operate on a gentlemen’s club model with oral services available on premises and similar prices.

Tipping at Thai blowjob bars is not expected but some customers do hand over extra cash whenever they feel it is deserved.

Hong Kong

Hong Kong has plenty of prostitution that ranges from the legal to the gray market and beyond but there is only one blowjob bar in the territory. That’s the Dragon Bar which is a go go bar staffed by a handful of Filipinas. There are benches in the two front corners of the bar where women on staff suck off customers in exchange for lady drinks that cost 250 Hong Kong Dollars ($32.25 USD) each.

The service is meant as a teaser to get customers to take women out of the bar at exorbitant prices though customers who request it can be finished off by mouth right in their bench for a negotiated rate.

The Philippines

The day of the blowjob bar seems to have passed in the Philippines. Angeles City had a short street filled with short time bars that used to be referred to as “blow row” but it has for the most part all been shut down.

Customers will still occasionally get oral service inside a go go bar on the Walking Street portion of Fields Avenue but it is much more common further up on Perimeter Road. Even there the service is never a sure thing. Increasingly common bar raids probably has a lot to do with that.

Vietnam

It used to be somewhat common for customers to get oral sex in private areas of Ho Chi Minh City’s hostess bars but that is no longer the case. Most of Saigon’s hostess bars are today nothing more than places for customers to drink in the company of women which the exception of a few places like Bar 29 that appear to be hanging on by a thread.

In Vietnam blowjob barbershops are much more common. Although there are some adult oriented cafes including a few where the staff offers oral to customers the blowjob barbershops locally refered to as hot toc om or cat toc om are much more common.

blowjob barbershop vietnam

To be clear, not all barbershops in the country offer oral relief. Most do not even if they have good looking women working in them. Some are legitimate hair salons, some are hand job shops, and some are just places local guys go for eye candy while getting a trim or an ear cleaning. The salons that offer oral range in scope. Some employ only one or two middle aged lady in pajamas. Others are staffed by dozens of skilled and attractive women in their early twenties.

All blowjob barbershops follow a similar model. Customers walk inside and select one of the available women on staff. They then walk to one of several private booths or rooms with a massage table and a sink. They strip down and sit on the table while the gal they’ve selected goes off to collect some wet naps and mouthwash. When the gal returns she washes the customer’s hand and then pulls down her top and her panties and commences to give the customer oral.

After the session completes the customers get dressed and head back to the front where they pay their tab. Most of the blowjob barbershops charge customers between 100,000 and 200,000 Dong ($4.40 – $8.80 USD). The customers are also expected to tip their service providers. Most give an amount equal to the house fee though some will give more.

The blowjob barbershops are completely oriented to local guys but they all accept foreign customers too. The women on staff rarely if ever speak any language other than Vietnamese.

Blowjob barbershops exist all over Vietnam but Ho Chi Minh City is probably home to the most. A short list of these shops includes Benny’s, Phu Ngoc and Tuan Tam. The popular Thien Phu is no longer in operation.

Cambodia

At one point in the not so distant past there were a few bars in Phnom Penh where oral services were offered at incredibly low rates. Those bars have all been closed for years now but they were so legendary that they are still talked about today.

cambodian bar girl

At a semi-secret bar called Sofie’s customers could get a sample suck job while enjoying their beers for a mere $1 US. The bar was sort of hidden from full view of the public but that didn’t prevent it from getting shut down apparently as a result of complaints from the neighborhood.

Cambodia’s commercial sex scene is largely over scandalized by the foreign press. All in all the country is still very conservative.

Customers occasionally receive hand or blowjobs in hostess bars or karaoke parlors but it is rare. There are definitely no specialized suck shops around even if there may be one or two bars with a special room in the back that gets occasional use.

Indonesia

There are no blow job bars in Indonesia but there is a large and vibrant commercial sex industry. That’s true even though the new governor is trying to shut down one of the biggest sex saunas in the country and despite his predecessor closing one of the largest red light districts a little earlier.

While most of the prostitution in Jakarta is aimed at locals, the infamous Blok M is full of bars that are mostly patronized by westerners.

The bars all look like they have seen better days but occasionally they do still draw a crowd.

D’s Place is maybe the most popular of all the Blok M bars, probably because they have a stage where some pretty ladies in bikinis dance around poles. Or it could be because there is a semi-secret room in the back. In that room and even in some dark corners of the bar some of the older women will occasionally perform hand or oral service for customers willing to pay. Because of that I have seen D’s Place described as “Indonesia’s only blow job bar.” I wouldn’t characterize it as such at all, but I am not the only voice in the world.

Public oral service is also sometimes offered in some of the bigger sex clubs when guys tip big money or buy a lot of lady drinks for dancers. Since it’s not the focus of those places, I wouldn’t call them blow job bars either.

Japan

Japan’s blowjob bar scene is perhaps the most notorious in the world. At the very least, it’s the most widespread. In the megalopolis of Tokyo, and a number of other areas, these “pink salons” (or pinsaros) are ubiquitous. Legend has it that all blowjob bars can trace their heritage back the the pink salons of Japan but further research would be required to confirm that.

Originally created to get around laws that officially outlawed only penis-in-vagina penetrative sex in Japan, the country’s suck shops offer quick oral relief at a relatively low cost.

Japan’s pinsaros typically don’t offer private rooms. Apparently this too is a part of not being labeled an adult shop or at least shows that there are no knocking rooms inside.

Japanese models

Most pink salons play cheesy music but at a level much lower than the average night club. The places are open enough that customers can see the backs of other customer’s heads. It’s also common for customers to catch a glimpse or two of a girl walking by or servicing another guy, and occasionally to hear an overly enthusiastic woman sucking away like a Hoover vacuum cleaner.

People in Japan are generally very polite and privacy minded. Customers in pink salons don’t look at each other any more than the average guys looks at the people pissing next to him at a public urinal.

Pink salons are pretty straight forward and all operate on the same model. Customers walk in, pay a set fee to a manager at a front desk, then get led to one of several restaurant style booths in a dimly lit shop. Customer’s who know a service provider by name can request or “nominate” them for an extra fee.

After waiting for a while in their booths the customers are greeted by their service provider. The women usually wear some sort of sexy outfit though pink salon staff members aren’t really known for their good looks.

blowjob bar pink salon Japan

After a bit of small talk customers are asked to take their pants off. Their services providers then strip down before washing off their customer’s cocks with a wet nap or moist wash cloth. After that they go to work delivering the oral services they specialize in.

Some service providers go the extra mile and allow customers to touch them all over or even get into the 69 position and do mutual oral sex but for the most part straightforward head is the norm.

Prices vary from one shop to another but the rate is usually around 4000 Yen ($36 USD). Characteristic of Japan the level of service at these places is really unmatched even if the skill of the women working them isn’t always. As an example of this a lot of shops will offer specials like 2 girls sucking for the price of one or buy one BJ get one free. Some shops even have point cards. After customers come ten times they show their point card and cum again free. Some of the cut-rate places will have lines literally out the door when they offer big discounts, as odd as that may sound.

Although they mostly look and operate in the same way the different such shops in Japan have different setups. Some have themes and accompanying uniforms. Some employ beautiful young women. Some employ housewives and some employ anyone they can get.

fellatio japan

Although pink salons are all over the place only a select few are open to foreigners. In other parts of Japan’s commercial sex industry this is usually explained away by saying that foreigners have more diseases or wouldn’t understand the system or the shop owner’s instructions. Rumor has it that with pink salons it is because they are mostly owned by people who happen to have a thing against people from other countries.

Since Ichigo Kurabu changed names and officially banned foreigners there are now only four suck shops in Tokyo that accept guys who aren’t from Japan. They are Jan Jan, Hinomaru, Dio/Emotion and Academy which despite the name is worked by ladies of a certain age.

As with anything else in Japan tipping is not expected at the pink salons. In most cases it probably wouldn’t even be accepted.

South Korea

There is no specific blowjob bar scene to speak of in South Korea. Granted there are special karaoke rooms where the women on staff can suck off all of their customers at the end of the session but those aren’t specialized suck shops.

South Korea does have its own unique type of shop called a lip cafe however. These shops are technically a form of kiss bang where customers are supposed to pay a set fee to make out with an attractive woman who is usually still in university.

At some kiss rooms individual women occasionally offer oral sex to customers for an extra fee. At the lip cafes oral sex is basically a given and all the women on staff offer it.

The lip bangs are somewhat underground and mostly rely on the internet to advertise. They rarely post their locations publicly, instead preferring to have customers contact them with smartphone chat apps like the local favorite Kakaotalk. That way they can screen customers and go meet them in person in a public street before leading them to their shops.

Many will not accept foreigners especially if they don’t speak Korean.

Switzerland and the UK

All of the blowjob bars in the world are concentrated in Asia. This gives credence to the tales about all suck saloons originating with the Japanese pink salon model.

But back in 2016 a lot of stories started appearing in the press about plans to open a pickle polishing coffee shop in the Swiss capital city of Geneva. According to these reports the place was set to have women available for selection who would blow customers while they enjoyed their cup of joe.

The ambitions of the people who wanted to open their cock sucking cafe were quickly scuttled however. Not long after the initial reports emerged word came that the place would run afoul of rules against pimping.

Of course no Swiss fellatio cafe ever came into being. Stories about a similar shop staffed by robots being set to open in London seem to have been nothing more than hot air even though there is a website already in place.

Suck Job Safety

So what about safety? With all the man meat and salty semen going in and out of the mouths of the women working in blowjob bars there must be major risks, right? Maybe not.

Apparently it’s fairly rare for a man to catch anything by receiving oral sex without a condom. I-Base calls it “likely to be zero or close to zero” risk for HIV. There is a risk of gonorrhea transmission but it is not all that high either. There may also be a low risk of chlamydia transmission through this route though at least one respected physician says there is no risk at all:

“You’ll find lots of information on the web and elsewhere saying chlamydia is acquired by oral sex, but it’s wrong — even though such statements often come from apparently authoritative sources, such as public health departments. But the research is clear that chlamydia rarely infects the throat and, when it does, rarely is transmitted by oral sex (if ever).”

Herpes can of course be transmitted from mouth to penis. Syphilis can also be transmitted through oral with or without a condom if a rash or sore is present yet this is still called “uncommon” by most medical professionals.

Now please don’t take this to mean that customers at blowjob bars cannot contract any illnesses. That would a ridiculous assertion to make. I am simply relaying a summary of what research based information I can find.

lelo hex condoms

I am also going on anecdotal evidence which isn’t scientific but is there nonetheless. There are a lot of women working in blowjob bars and related businesses giving oral to several men a day sometimes for years on end. Obviously they are not coming down with any life threatening diseases in large numbers. If they were the shops would have closed long ago. This website and life in general has also brought me into contact with many fans of blowjob bars. I don’t know any of them who have come down with any serious illnesses either.

Women giving oral sex can get gonorrhea in the throat though that seems to resolve on its own when it does occur. Since STD tests almost never include any throat swabbing that makes sense. If no one is testing throats for gonorrhea how could they be prescribing medicines to threat gonorrhea of the throat?

According to some sources the risk of a woman getting herpes on her mouth from giving oral sex is very low. According to other sources the risk of a woman contracting HIV from giving oral sex to an HIV positive man is 4 in 10,000.

While nearly anything a guy or gal would get from oral sex would be easily curable with a dose of antibiotics there are some strains of infection popping up recently that show strong resistance to normal treatment. Most seem to have emerged in Asia. Does the existence and popularity of blowjob bars have something to do with this? I doubt it but I can’t be sure.

Blow Job Bars The Complete Report

Few if any suck shop service providers would deride a customer for requesting a condom. Although it is rare some shops do use them as standard practice. Some women working in these places also have their own policies.

Of course I don’t suggest or recommend anything. I am just a reporter. This website is meant for entertainment only. I write to bring readers enjoyment and nothing else. You are responsible for your own life and the actions you take. Like anything else you have to balance the risk and the reward. At the end of the day, it is as the Thais say, “up to you”.

So there you have it. The low down on how guys get their swords swallowed for a few bucks in a plethora of locations updated and modernized for today’s discerning reader.

Review: Emily Spa — Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

Emily Spa is one of the many massage parlors in Ho Chi Minh City that could very easily be lost in the crowd. That’s especially true since the place is tucked away down a corridor that the average person would never venture into. It’s probably for that reason that a team of middle aged Vietnamese ladies sits out in the street near the place trying to recruit foreign customers.

HCMC happy ending massage girls

Those ladies look like just some of the many Vietnamese people who hang around on sidewalks around the country drinking coffee or tea and having a chat. In fact they are basically touts who are quick to approach any likely looking subject to ask if they want a massage in relatively clear English for the area.

Guys who relent and ask for more information are then asked what kind of massage they want. First they are asked about “everything”. If that doesn’t work they are asked if they want “happy ending massage“. If they agree to either they are quickly whisked down a yellow hallway lined with various types of handbags that are ostensibly on sale.

Any customer that follows a tout without negotiating or at least asking for a price in Ho Chi Minh City sets themselves up for being vastly overcharged at the very least. There are stories of worse but generally speaking Ho Chi Minh City is a pretty safe place that is for the most part free of the kind of scams made by ping pong show promoters in Bangkok’s Patpong section.

Guys who do negotiate will find that the general asking price for a massage with happy ending is around 1 million Dong ($44 USD). The asking price for the full package is double that or more. Various other options can be offered too depending on any number of circumstances. As with most things in Vietnam prices are negotiable and different customers may pay more or less than what is mentioned here.

The touts tend to ask guys who agree to a massage for money up front though they will also accept money after from experienced clients who are firm in their stance and understanding of the way things typically work.

After customers agree on payment and the type of session they want they are led by the touts down the aforementioned hallway and up a flight of steps. There sits an entrance to a massage parlor completely with name sign and more details that no one passing on the street would ever see.

Customers take off their shoes in front of the shop before entering. Then the touts explain to one of the available staff members what has been agreed upon in Vietnamese. The touts then leave and the customers are led to one of several small cubicles. Those cubicles contain massage tables and not much else. They are surrounded by a combination of long dark curtains and decaying block walls.

The handful of women who work at Emily Spa are surprisingly warm and cheerful despite their day to day drudgery. They seem to all be in their mid twenties and mostly working to support families or children. They are not the most beautiful women in the world but they are hardly unattractive either. Unlike some who work similar beats in the touristy districts of the city they do not ask for tips or otherwise go out of their way to milk money from customers. Some even go out of their way to learn and practice English.

As is to be expected the actual massages performed at Emily Spa are more or less nonexistent. The special services beyond that are not rushed or mechanical but they could hardly be described as sensual either. Emily Spa is definitely not Minh Minh Tam. Then again, it doesn’t try or purport to be.

Review: Hoang Thanh — Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

Hoang Thanh is one of the many goi dau style hot toc hair salons in Ho Chi Minh City where customers are treated to hot blows without the aid of any blow dryers.

Hoang Thanh is the first of many shops of its kind that one encounters when traveling against traffic on Nguyen Phi Khanh street in District 1 of Ho Chi Minh City. Coming from the end of the street that is home to a busy and buzzing Highlands Coffee shop it is the first shop on the left.

Hot toc blowjob ho chi minh city

The place is marked with a sign but as it tends to blend with all the others on the strip the defining feature is the nearly round the clock presence of a male tout who shouts at any and all guys who walk around the area in an attempt to bring in customers.

The interior of Hoang Thanh looks quite unassuming. The lobby area is quite small and one could easily walk right in and back out of the place in a matter of seconds thanks to the presence of a door leading out into an alley in back of the shop.

There are a handful of women working at Hoang Thanh most days. They vary in looks from average to attractive and in age from the twenties to the thirties. Most are quite fit and they all look rather nice in their fitted and matching dresses decorated with things like floral patterns.

Once customers walk in they either take whichever service provider is next in line or select one themselves. Then they head up a natural wooden set of steps and into one of the private rooms. Unlike the lobby at Hoang Thanh the individual rooms are much larger than those found at most other similar shops in the vicinity.

Each room contains the standard sturdy massage table and sink. They also have locking doors which provide more privacy than the curtains and booths used at a lot of other places with a similar mode of operations. Some of the rooms even have televisions though they are definitely not up to the level of the VIP and Super VIP quarters in places like Minh Minh Tam.

Services follow the general pattern practiced at most shops of this kind in the city. Customers are stripped and cleaned by attendants more or less in the buff then provided with ongoing oral until completion. After that they are cleaned up again and resuited.

As reported here in the past a sort of standard price of 400,000 Dong ($18 USD) has emerged in the area for foreigners. This is not exactly a set rate however even if a lot of people continue to pay it. Each shop charges a house or ticket fee of around 200,000 VND ($9 USD). Tips are usually expected for the individual service providers too but there is not necessarily any standard or set price.

At Hoang Thanh and places like it local guys tip whatever they want. Many tip between 50 and 100 thousand. Some tip more or less. Some foreigners who either speak the local language or know the system follow in the fashion of the local customers but others just hand over 400 or even 500 thousand on their way out of the shop.

Review: Hoang Duc — Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

Hoang Duc is one of the many hair salon slash massage shops oriented towards oral offerings on Nguyen Phi Khanh street in District 1 of Ho Chi Minh City. I doubt that the namesakes of either the city or the street would care much for what goes on there but this is today’s reality.

Located at street number 74, Hoang Duc is nestled among several other shops including quite a few that offer that same kinds of services. Still it is somehow rather discreet. Perhaps that is because of the location or the entrance that is recessed back from the street a bit.

hot toc om HCMC

The building is of the typically narrow shop house variety but Hoang Duc’s lobby seems to be longer and thinner than most others around. Chairs line both sides of the lobby and they are usually full of women who sit around playing with cards or their phones until a customer arrives.

The women who work at Hoang Duc are for the most part attractive with sexy bodies. Some of the ladies even have manmade mammaries which is a rarity for the street. There are probably ten to twelve women working most times with their ages ranging from the mid twenties to mid thirties. Everyone on staff sports the same flared dress which is a nice touch that probably helps secure business.

All of these kinds of places tend to have a sort of queue where one staff member is always next in line to serve whoever walks in the door. At the same time all of these places also allow customers to chose their own service providers even if that is no explicitly stated.

Nearly all the hot tocs on Nguyen Phi Khanh seemed to be owned either by women or by male and female couples. I can’t be sure if she is the owner of the facilities by the mamasan style manager at Hoang Duc is one of the younger gals around in her position. In my subjective opinion she is also particularly curvaceous and aluuring which is not something I would normally say about a hot toc higher up.

After customers select a customer they are guided up a single set of stairs. That guiding is often done by the aforementioned manager even though she does not service customers herself.

The rooms are large and divided with a screen like curtain. Each room has two sturdy tables inside along with a sink at the head that is meant for washing hair but normally utilized for other types of hygienic practices. The rooms offer quite a bit of privacy when there is only one customer but the same could be said if there was a guy on each table more or less in arms reach of one another.

The standard oral option is offered at Hoang Duc for the same kinds of prices as other places in the immediate area. That means a payment of 250,000 Dong ($11 USD) for the house plus whatever tip the customer wants to give to the service provider. Payment is rendered after services and normally on the way out.

Foreigners have gotten into a habit of paying a combined fee of between 400 and 500 thousand Dong to shops on Nguyen Phi Khanh. Some shops even ask for that amount up front from guys they are not familiar with. In reality though the prices are as described with a required house fee and an optional tip. Locals often tip as little as 50,000 and sometimes they don’t even tip at all!

One thing that sets Hoang Duc apart from some other nearby shops is that at least a few of the women on staff discreetly offer full service to their customers from time to time for a negotiable all inclusive fee of around 1 million Dong ($44 USD).

It doesn’t seem that the management is aware of this since the women who do go the extra mile ask for the money upstairs most likely so that those downstairs won’t see a larger than normal amount of money being handed over by customers. This is somewhat typical in off the radar spots in Southeast Asia and gives at least some credence to claims by entangled massage parlor entrepreneurs that they have no idea what their women do with customers in private.

Review: Hoang Dia — Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

Hoang Dia is another the many hot toc shops on Nguyen Phi Khanh street in Ho Chi Minh City with a staff of service providers offering oral services. The shop sits at street number 126 and is marked by a series of big bright signs that can be scene from a distance.

Hoang Dia is located on the north side of this local sort of “blow row”. There are many similar shops in the immediate area including several that have already been reviewed on this website such as Phu Nguc and Tuan Tam.

sexy hot toc HCMC

Unlike some of the competitors on the strip the inside of Hoang Dia actually looks like a real hair salon. You could even imagine that someone might in fact get a trim while inside the place if only it had a barber on staff. Instead the shop has a handful of women on staff who skew towards the older side for the area.

Of course things like staff numbers and makeup can change from one day to the next in an adult hot toc like Hoang Dia but as it stands the four or five women usually found working the shop are closer to 35 than 25. Some may very well have aged out of other aspects of the adult industry requiring youthful looks and exuberance but I can’t be sure of that.

The Vietnamese hair salon slash massage shops offering oral don’t always hire older women. One only need recall the well known place called Thien Phu for an example of that. While the building at 49 Nguyen Phi Khanh is now literally a hollowed out shell since the aforementioned shop closed there are still some very attractive women in their early twenties working the local circuit.

Although the women at Hoang Dia are on the older side relatively speaking they are still for the most part attractive. They are also skilled and generally fit with at least one of the women having a big round set of bolt on bossoms. The ladies at Hoang Dia wear the kinds of flattering dresses that are common in the industry and they seem to have no trouble drawing in customers even in spite of all the nearby competition.

Once customers step inside and select a service provider they are guided up a single flight of stairs to one of the private rooms. These rooms have a rather typical layout reminiscent of the setup over at the more well known Benny’s. That means the room is filled with small cubicles made up of metal frames and frosted glass.

The walls around the cubicles don’t go all the way up to the ceiling or even down to the ground but they provide enough privacy for customers to be satisfied. Each cube contains a sturdy massage type table with the standard sink at its head. The women use the sink, soap and an arsenal of wet wipes as their main cleaning apparatus at the beginning and end of each session.

As mentioned the standard service is a suck and go but like the nearby and similarly named Hoang Duc some of the women on staff at Huang Dia take it upon themselves to offer the full course. That special service is off menu with rates subject to negotiation but a typical all inclusive fee for a foreigner is somewhere around 1.5 million in local currency ($66 USD).

Customers who opt to go all the way are asked to pay up front right in the both while payment for standard services on the other hand is done on the way out as per usual. The house charges a fee of 250,000 Dong ($11 USD) per customer. Customers are usually expect to tip above that too. Foreigners tend to be hit with a overall charge of something like 400,000 Dong ($18 USD) though those who can speak the language or at least navigate the scene as locals do often pay something lower than that just as the many local guys who use the shop do.

Hoang Dia. 126 Nguyen Phi Khanh, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Open seven days a week from 11:00 AM until 11:00 PM.

Review: Huynh Phuc Khang — Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

Huynh Phuc Khang is one of the many Ho Chi Minh City hot toc goi dau hair salons offering massages in private rooms. Since Huynh Phuc Khang is located away from places more well known to foreigners like Benny’s and Hoang Than the client base seems to be made up almost entirely of locals.

huynh phuc khang hcmc massage

Huynh Phuc Khang is located along the canal. There are other similar hot toc goi dau scattered around the area that offer various levels of service. I will report about some of those in the future.

Huynh Phuc Khang is clearly marked with some large professional signs. The front entrance is made up of glass doors though the place is still somehow discreet. It could be that traffic buzzes by outside and there are so many other things around that it is difficult for people to focus their eyes on any one thing.

Inside Huynh Phuc Khang is one of the cleanest places of its type to be found anywhere in the city. The front lobby is where most of the women on staff usually hang around. There are about a half dozen ladies working the shop at any given time. Most wear matching form fitting dresses cut short and low and coming in bright colors like red and blue.

The women working at Huynh Phuc Khang range in age from the early twenties to perhaps the mid thirties though most are in their twenties. Some are quite attractive while others are more average. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder but I doubt most guys would find more than perhaps one lady at the shop to be unattractive.

Looks of course have no bearing on service too which could explain why the oldest gal working at Huynh Phuc Khang is often mentioned as being one of the best at the place when it comes to actual appointments. Of course such mentions come in the Vietnamese language as the place has not been covered in English anywhere as far as I know.

When customers enter Huynh Phuc Khang they either take whoever is next in line or select one of the ladies in the shop and head upstairs. There they find another floor filled with four or five cubicles. The cubicles are large and clean. They’re much better looking than most found in similar places. They also have solid walls between them rather than the usual thin frosted glass.

Each room has a wall fan, a sink and a sturdy massage table. They also have wooden coat racks and plenty of space to actually move around. Any lack of privacy between the cubicles would be minimal and related to the walls not going all the way to the ceiling or the thick curtains used as doors. The entire place is kept comfortable by a strong air conditioning system.

At any shop with multiple women on staff service usually ranges in quality and style unless there is some kind of training set down by the management. The lovely lass at Huynh Phuc Khang doesn’t seem to have much to do with anything other than keeping the place running so the service providers basically do whatever they want to do in the time provided.

Of course they all want to please their clients since they work more or less for tips. And so the service is delivered at least at a level expected by most. In some cases and with certain providers the level of service can go far above and beyond the norm to the point that customers could be left thinking they were getting shorted at other places in the city.

Some of the gals are true masters of the craft of private massage. Even things like hot and cold can be integrated into the routines to create sessions that are as relieving for sore aching bodies as they are amazing.

None of the ladies at Huynh Phuc Khang seem to be clock watchers either. If there is a set time period for each session it isn’t made clear and more often than not it seems that the ladies aim more to please their customers than to reach a certain point in time.

The house price for a private massage at Huynh Phuc Khang is 170,000 Dong ($7.50 USD). Customers are more or less expect to tip on top of that as a token of appreciation for the work the women on staff put in. By definition tips are variable and not set in stone but in general customers at Huynh Phuc Khang usually hand over an additional 250,000 VND ($11 USD).

All payment and tips are rendered after service concludes which is the norm for nearly all massage places in the city even if shops in tourist areas try to claim otherwise.

Huynh Phuc Khang, 1096 Truong Sa Phuong, Phuong 12, Quan 3, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Open every day from 9:00 am to 11:00 pm.

Review: Le Duyen 4 — Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

Over the years I have written quite a bit about the hot toc hair salons of Ho Chi Minh City. As described in previous posts some of these shops offer sexual services while others do not. Le Duyen 4 is one of the hot tocs that looks like it might be sexual when it fact it is basically just a mainstream hair salon staffed by attractive women. The place still deserves a review however if only to give a better picture of what things are like in Vietnam’s economic hub.

There are no hard and fast rules when it comes to the grey area of sexy hair salons in Vietnam but some generalities do emerge. In most cases the hair salons that offer sexual services are more discreet in appearance. At those places the women stay back from the doors which themselves are often frosted to conceal the interior. In the hair salons with big open glass fronts and lots of beautiful women clearly visible from the street the only services being sold are things like hair washes.

le Duyen 4 review

There are of course exceptions including some I plan to report on in the future but these things are true often enough for people to repeat them as a sort of general truth. Since Le Duyen 4 has a glass front and an open ground floor it more or less fits the stereotype.

There are several Le Duyen shops around Ho Chi Minh City. Hence the number following the name. All of the shops make up a sort of chain. Though there are some minor differences between them they all basically operate in the same way.

Le Duyen 4 is located on a main street. It has a big white sign above the doors that displays the name of the shop along with the phrase “Beauty Salon” in English.

Just inside the doors there is a counter where the manager sits and collects money. Payment for any services is rendered after the fact. There are set pricing menus but most customers just ask for the prices of the services before partaking or simply go with the flow secure in the knowledge that even a full round of services in a Saigon hair salon will cost less than a basic haircut in some cities like New York.

There are always male barbers on hand to cut or style hair. The women offer services ranging from pedicures to manicures to shampooing. They also do facials and massages but neither of those are sexual in nature even though there are rumors of some of the women meeting guys after hours.

Le Duyen 4 has a staff of dozens of women who range in age from 18 to perhaps 26. Beauty is always in the eye of the beholder but I find it hard to imagine anyone denying the presence of some really beautiful woman at Le Duyen 4 and its sister shops. The fact that they wear form fitting colorful dresses with scooping necklines and revealing bottoms only enhances their attractiveness.

Like most people in Vietnam the women can only really speak Vietnam though many do make an effort to speak English. At other Le Duyen shops English speaking is less common. Since Le Duyen 4 is near Ben Thanh market they probably have more experience dealing with foreigners.

Oddly some people have posted comments on the internet describing the place as “a scam” or a “tourist trap”. I am not sure what they are based on. As far as a I know a scam involves deception or robbery of some sort. At Le Duyen 4 the staff provides exactly what they promise for the prices they quote. Perhaps some people see good looking women in low cut dresses in Southeast Asia and think sex must be on offer. Or maybe people from countries without a habit of tipping are shocked when a woman who massages them for an hour asks for the equivalent of $6 US. I have no way to know for sure but I can say that Le Duyen 4 is not a clip joint unless of course you want them to take a little off the top.

In my mind it is difficult to imagine a place that charges 120,000 Dong ($5.30 USD) for a cut and wash by a beautiful woman as a rip off shop. But in an area where haircuts can cost as little as $1.25 and people barter over the price of a banana I guess anything is possible.

Le Duyen 4. 72 Truong Dinh, Ben Thanh, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Open every day from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM. Phone: (+84) 028-3822-1678. Click here for a map.

Review: Thien Huong Dat — Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

Ho Chi Minh City is the biggest city in Vietnam. By some measures it is quickly becoming one of the largest cities in the entire world. With a population of around nine million that is easy to see. What is not so easy to see however is the massive local adult entertainment industry that stays hidden in plain site. Covered by euphemisms and cloaked in fronts the businesses are all around even if a lot of the people who pass by them every day have no awareness.

hot toc om

I have reported on many places on this website over the years. Some are very well known while others are not. Or at least they are not well known by the people who might come across this site. I try to represent a balanced view and do my best to report on all sorts of venues around the world with the obvious limitations that time and space impose.

Thien Huong Dat is one of several goi dau style hair wash and massage places located in a fairly concentrated area. These shops are hardly the only enterprises of their type in town but they are plentiful.

While Thien Huong Dat is a little larger than most of the other similar shops nearby it doesn’t necessarily have more women on staff. In fact it has a somewhat small staff that rivals tiny shops in terms of raw numbers. On any given day there might only be four or five women working the shop.

That said the women working Thien Huong Dat are for the most part quite attractive. That fact is only accented by their wardrobe which consists of matching tight revealing dresses. As is usual the ladies lay around playing with phones and chatting in between customers.

Once customers enter the shop they either take whichever service provider is next in line or they select one of the ladies lying about the shop. Then they are led upstairs to more private rooms that are subdivided into smaller booths.

The booths offer ever more privacy despite being made up of walls that do not go all the way up to the ceiling or down to the ground. They are sparsely decorated with nothing more than the bare essentials. That means they have shirt hooks, hair washing sinks and sturdy massage type tables.

The standard services are offered at Thien Huong Dat. That’s true of nearly every shop of the type in the immediate area and in other parts of town though there are of course exceptions or at least exceptional service providers around who sometimes go their own way and offer more than anyone might know or expect.

For the most part though customers are treated with mouth service performed at a relatively high level of skill. Things can change and every single aspect cannot be accounted for but in general that’s the name of the game.

The house fee at Thien Huong Dat is a round 200,000 Dong ($9 USD). Local customers who make up most of the clientele pay this fee and perhaps a little more in the form of a tip. Visitors to the area have long gotten into the habit of handing over 400,000 Dong or more however so that has now become a sort of expectation for some.

Thien Huong Dat. 80 Nguyen Phi Khanh, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Open seven days a week from 11:00 AM to 11:00 PM.

Review: Tuan Anh — Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

Tuan Anh is another of the many specialty hair salon massage shops catering to male customers in Ho Chi Minh City. For the most part Tuan Anh and shops like it cater to a local customer base though it doesn’t seem that any discriminate against customers on the basis of their national origins.

Hot Toc hookers HCMC

Because there are so many similar shops nearby Tuan Anh may get lost in the mix for many. The shop does have a sign but it is the last on the street and it does not necessarily stand out. The only thing that might set the shop apart is the presence of a woman alongside the usual male tout slash security guard who stands out front.

Tuan Anh has a very small lobby with a few chairs. That is where the three or four ladies on staff congregate in between customers. For most of the day their work seems to consist of laying about or maybe looking at a phone to take the time in between sessions.

The women working at Tuan Anh make up quite a mix for their small sample size. They range in age from probably mid twenties to mid thirties. While beauty is ultimately in the eye of the beholder the gals at Tuan Anh would probably considered average by most men. Unlike the ladies at some other shops in the area the women at Tuan Anh do not wear matching dresses or any other kind of special uniform.

While the situation might appear dire to some the ladies on staff seem to take it all in stride. That seems to be more or less typical of the local industry and the locale in general even if some people do claim things are a lot harsher in the land of the ascending dragon than the land of smiles.

After customers step into the lobby at Tuan Anh and select a service provider they are led up a flight of steep metal steps that look like they may have once been bolted to the side of a helicopter or cargo plane. That leads them to a higher floor which is where services are rendered.

Private rooms on that level are further divided into individual booths as is common of some shops of this type such as the better known Benny’s. The booths are made up of frosted glass connected to metal frames that offer limited privacy without closing things off completely. Since there are rarely more than one customer in the place at a time that’s probably a moot point anyway.

Tuan Anh is a little less equipped than some of its competitors. For example there don’t appear to be sinks in any of the booths and fans are places where one might otherwise expect an air conditioners. Still things are nearly as bad as they are over at the worst massage parlor in Vietnam.

The typical oral services for a shop of this type are offered as a matter of course. Rates also reflect those of the area. That means that locals pay a ticket price of 200,000 Dong ($9 USD) plus whatever tip they want to hand over at the end of a session. Foreign visitors in the know may render a similar amount though many seem to think that the somewhat widespread practice of handing over 400,000 Dong or more is the new norm.

Tuan Anh. 113A Nguyen Phi Khanh, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Open seven days a week from 11:00 AM until 11:00 PM.

Review: Kim Yen — Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

Kim Yen is one of the many hot tocs in Ho Chi Minh City that offers a lot more than trims and facial massages. In fact I doubt the place offers those services at all even though it looks like a small hair salon from the street.

Located along the canal that bisects Ho Chi Minh City the shop is clearly marked with a big white sign. The name of the shop is spelled out in large red letters reading: “Kim Yen”. Some other words to the effect of massage and hair salon are also there along with the place’s address.

vietnam full service

Kim Yen has clear glass doors and a tiny shop floor. It doesn’t look like much at all. Few would probably realize that there is a lot more space one level up. The doors remained locked until a customer arrives and knocks. Then the doors are temporarily unlocked to allow access to the shop.

when customers enter Kim Yen they are greeted by one of the three or four ladies who works the place. These Vietnamese women all seem to be in their thirties though they could be a little younger or possibly even older. Despite that the women would probably be described as being at least somewhat attractive by most men.

All of the women at Kim Yen wear the kind of sexy revealing dresses one would expect to see in a Korean massage parlor in the US or a place like Asian Studio Wien in Vienna. They all seem to have had their breasts surgically enhanced as well. That is common among professionals in Vietnam but not necessarily for women working in hot tocs. As it turns out Kim Yen isn’t necessarily a standard naughty hot toc if such a thing even exists.

The general rule in Vietnam is that hair salons with open glass doors and windows usually don’t offer any extra services. It’s not much of a rule however as places like Kim Yen prove. Most of the hot tocs also employ women in their twenties or perhaps early thirties with natural bodies who don’t speak English. And they limit their services to oral or in some cases hand. Kim Yen breaks from that mold too.

After customers are met by one of the women on staff they are led up a perilous staircase to a higher level filled with small booths like those seen at Benny’s across town. These booths are surrounded by frosted glass and contain massage tables that stretch from one side to the other. There isn’t much room for anything else.

The women typically begin with a minute or so of unenthusiastic massage before offering further services. The main item on the menu at Kim Yen seems to be full service. There are no set prices and things are highly negotiable. The women are experienced hagglers and they may quote rates as high as 1,000,000 Dong ($44 USD) to foreigners even though locals and regular customers are more likely to pay 500,000 to 600,000 ($22-26 USD).

Customers who take up the offers for extra services then get a quick round with their service provider there in the booth. The usual routine involves a cat bath followed by a bit of oral and then the grand finale. There are no extra facilities for clean up though there is a small bathroom for use by everyone in the shop.

Although they have probably been in their line of work for years the women at Kim Yen don’t seem to be overly hardened. In fact they can even come off as being a friendly and jovial bunch.

Review: Cafe 714 — Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

Cafe 714 is an adult oriented lounge in District 8 of Ho Chi Minh City. It is a type of establishment that the Vietnamese refer to somewhat in jest as a caphe om. That translates to “hug cafe” which suggests more or less what goes on inside the place.

sexy caphe om

As the name might suggest Cafe 714 is located at 714 Pham The Hien. This street is home to a number of mainstream businesses with caphe om interspersed up and down the road. The previously reviewed Tro Lai is only steps away at 698 Pham The Hien.

Om means hug in Vietnamese but the term is used rather loosely. As described in a report I published on creative responses to the sex work ban in Vietnam years ago there are in fact all sorts of “om” places in Vietnam. The long list of real or imagined shops includes the ubiquitous bia om that are more or less the same as caphe om except that they are presented as beer halls instead of coffee shops.

That’s actually somewhat funny since Cafe 714 and places like it aren’t all that oriented around coffee themselves. Cafe 714 calls itself a cafe and uses the same sort of low lounge chairs that a lot of local style coffee shops use but it doesn’t actually serve up a cup of joe. Instead it has a limited menu that includes soft drinks and beer. The latter is usually served over ice in a mug as is typical in Vietnam and surrounding countries.

Cafe 714 isn’t a totally obvious place but it isn’t all that hidden either. Like other shops of the kind nearby it is marked by a clear sign even if the entrance is a little more obscured. The actual entrance is a little recessed back from the road and some potted plants sit outside in an attempt to the obscure the view.

Unlike Tro Lai however Cafe 714 is more or less open to the street. The wide front is exposed and it wouldn’t take all that much bending for someone out front to get a glimpse of what is going on inside. That’s okay though because for the most part nothing much is going on inside of Cafe 714 at all.

Tro Lai is a rather lively place with a lot of women of various degrees of attractiveness on staff. Cafe 714 on the other hand is staffed by two or three women at most. While one of the women might be a somewhat attractive gal in her twenties on a good night the majority of the ladies who work the place are in their thirties or forties and look like they have seen much better days.

In other words working at Cafe 714 wouldn’t be the pinnacle of anyone’s career. In fact most if not all of the people inside would probably rather be anywhere else. Still the gals take it all in stride and they do not shirk their work at all.

When customers enter the dimly lit facilities they can sit down in any of the many seats. Then they place their orders. The typical customer would order a beer but no one seems to give a second look to those who chose to drink an energy drink or even just a can of cola.

Music plays in the background and customers mostly bang away at their phone screens in what has become a sort of international pastime. The ladies on staff bring orders and do their best to strike up conversation in hopes that they might break out of the doldrums or at least get a small tip.

The ladies on staff don’t speak any languages other than the local tongue. They wear dresses but they are not revealing nor necessarily well fitting. They sit with customers and do their best to converse. They may also ask to share a beer or soft drink. And that’s about it.

While some caphe om are known for staffing women that offer a lot more than coffee and hugs Cafe 714 is a more or less restrained and laid back kind of place. At most the women on staff may offer to meet a customer off premises in the right circumstances but otherwise there is no kind of funny business going on.

The days of oral being offered openly in the cafes do seem to be drawing to a close just as the more public BJ bars in Thailand have started to go the way the saber tooth tiger. There are still places where things like this go on they just are not nearly as widespread as they once were. Perhaps that is just the nature of the beast.

Review: Hai Yen — Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

Hai Yen is a barbershop style massage parlor in Ho Chi Minh City where customers are offered a lot more than a haircut and a back rub. Located on a main thoroughfare with a large sign and a clear glass front Hai Yen is one of the many places hidden in plain sight in the city. For those who don’t know it might look like any other hair salon. But for those who know what to look for Hai Yen is in fact rather obvious.

Hai Yen Hot Toc ho chi minh city

When customers arrive at Hai Yen they are greeted by one of the male attendants on staff. Greeted might not actually be the best word to describe the situation but in any event customers are quickly guided into the lobby where they see six or seven women lounging around in tight fitting dresses.

The women working at Hai Yen are generally of average attractiveness and range in age from the mid twenties to perhaps the mid thirties. The gals are fit with none being large or overweight. More than a few do sport some tattoos though none have as much ink on their bodies as one of the male attendants who could probably impress the Yakuza.

Few of the women or men on staff at Hai Yen can speak much English or any other language besides Vietnamese but they all seem more than happy to work with foreigners. In fact at many shops like Hai Yen local customers are actually not accepted at all.

After customers select one of the women on staff for their massage they are quickly guided up a set of stairs into one of several large and cavernous rooms. There they find a sturdy massage table against the wall and a shower in the corner. There is not much else.

The attendants carry supplies which are mostly limited to towels, bottled water and some protection. It would seem that minimalism is the name of the game at Hai Yen.

Customers are instructed to shower in the corner booth. Then they relax on the table when a towel to cover themselves. At that point the attendant takes a shower.

Once everyone is clean the massage portion of the session begins. As one might expect there is little in the way of body rubbing at Hai Yen. Things seem to be rather direct and head right to the main event almost immediately. Time is money after all.

At any place with multiple people on staff and no particular training service will vary. Generally speaking the service is skilled and professional. There are no hard and fast rules at Hai Yen and the owners would probably not claim knowledge of anything beyond a standard massage session. Yet in reality things usually follow what is a somewhat standard path for full service massage places with some uncovered suction followed by the focal point.

Somewhat surprisingly the ladies at Hai Yen don’t seem to be clock watchers who want to hustle customers out the door as fast as possible. That is not always the case in Vietnam.

As sessions conclude customers are expected to hand over payment in the room. There may not be a standard rate but most foreigners pay 1,300,000 ($57 USD). Customers who ask the price may be told the rate is even higher. On the other hand regular customers in the know may pay as little as 1,000,000 ($44 USD).

Though many are unaware there are actually several shops like Hai Yen around Ho Chi Minh City and even other parts of the country. They don’t advertise their services openly and they tend to come and go from one day to the next but they are abundant.

Review: Phuoc Loc 2 Massage — Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

Phuoc Loc 2 Massage is fitting located inside of the Phuoc Loc 2 Hotel in Ho Chi Minh City. Phuoc Loc 2 Massage is probably not the kind of place the average tourist or foreigner would wander into accidentally which in some part explains why the parlor is mostly visited by local Vietnamese customers.

The Phuoc Loc 2 isn’t the nicest or newest hotel in Ho Chi Ming City by any means. It a more or less run of the mill place that doesn’t mean it is terrible however. Most hotels in Ho Chi Minh City are actually pretty nice in comparison with what some of the other hotels in Southeast Asia can look like.

The same goes for the Phuoc Loc 2 massage section of the building. It definitely isn’t the most wonderful place in the world. But it is maintained and kept clean. The staff is pretty attentive too.

As you might expect Phuoc Loc 2 Hotel is open around the clock. The same goes for the massage parlor section of the hotel which not close either.

When customers enter the Phuoc Loc 2 Hotel they often find the place more or less empty with the exception of front desk staff and security. After making their way to the elevator they press the button for the massage floor and

A massage session in a VIP room at Phuoc Loc 2 is 360,000 Dong ($16 USD). The massage rooms at Phuoc Loc 2 are well done if over the top. They contain the usual accoutrements that people might expect in a Ho Chi Minh City hotel massage VIP room.

There are dozens of women working at Phuoc Loc 2 Massage. Most seem to be in their early twenties. A few might be approaching thirty but if so they are in the minority. The gals are almost uniformly attractive and fit. They wear the kinds of semi revealing uniforms that are common in the local massage joints and that only makes them look better.

Massages at Phuoc Loc 2 are decidedly mediocre. There may be some exceptions but for the most part the the masseuses working at Phuoc Loc 2 are not very good at doing body rubs. Of course for many guys that isn’t a problem.

As with many hotel based massage parlors happy ending massage is extremely common at Phuoc Loc 2. There may be guys who just get a regular rub down and go home but even they would have been offered more in most cases.

More depends on the situation and the negotiations that go down behind closed stores. In the normal rooms women usually offer a happy ending by hand for a tip. In the VIP rooms that is also the case though some of the women on staff have been known to offer guests in the nicer quarters oral service as well. Full service is definitely not offered anywhere in the building.

There are no set rates for tips in Ho Chi Minh City massage parlors. Some people suggest that customers should tip an amount equal to the price of their massage. Others go higher or lower. Foreigners often pay more than locals even when they are not pressured to. It’s not uncommon for a guy who is not Vietnamese to give a 500,000 Dong ($22 USD) tip to a masseuse who takes care of his needs.

Tips are negotiated between the service providers and customers or in the case of respected customers not mentioned at all. Payment for the actual massages is made at the desk on the way out.

Review: Cafe Nhac Tre 173 — Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

Cafe Nhac Tre 173 is a coffee shop in Ho Chi Minh City staffed by attractive ladies in revealing clothing. But although the women walk around in clothes that leave little to the imagination no sexual services are offered at the place. It is more or less just a coffee shop. Cafe Nhac Tre really proves the point that in Vietnam what you see isn’t always, or even usually, what you get.

Cafe Nhac Tre

Cafe Nhac Tre is rather large. There are around twenty tables and chairs out on the front patio and more than fifty seats inside. The interior is separated from the outside by glass doors and windows that are slightly tinted.

I don’t know how many women actually work at Cafe Nhac Tre but there must be more than a dozen. On any given day there are usually nine or ten walking around in their high heels and low cut tops. The gals are uniformly good looking with most appearing to be in their early twenties.

While the shop is for the most part frequented by local Vietnamese guys foreigners do also wander in from time to time. Most of the women on staff can only speak Vietnamese but there are some working the cafe who can speak other tongues like English or Korean to some degree. These women are usually eager to try out their foreign language skills.

Cafe Nhac Tre is not a caphe om. In other words it is not a place customers can hug or do more with the women on staff. It is essentially a coffee shop. That doesn’t mean that customers just order coffee and sit down alone however.

It’s not uncommon to see one of the women on staff sitting with a customer or even sitting on a customer though other than that things are more or less limited. There are rumors of women meeting regular customers outside of the shop but obviously that is not any kind of official company policy.

Since the shop is oriented toward locals the prices are quite reasonable. A customer can spend an hour at Cafe Nhac Tre enjoying a Vietnamese iced coffee and a complimentary ice water while chatting up attractive women and leaving a tip and still get away with spending less than the equivalent of $5 US Dollars. Compare that to the recently reviewed and not totally dissimilar Gira Gira Girls in Tokyo where spending an hour can cost a guy hundreds.

Perhaps most interesting or annoying depending on your outlook are the special events held at Cafe Nhac Tre with regularity. For the most part these are club style parties featuring guest DJs that spin records, or perhaps more accurately these days push buttons, while bouncing up and down on the small stage inside.

Ordinarily that might not sound like much but since the DJs are uniformly attractive women who sometimes wear even less than the waitresses you can understand why these special days are quite popular with local customers.

Even while such events are going on prices remain the same. There are always some disinterested customers who continue to enjoy their drinks outside even when such rambunctious parties occur steps away inside the doors too. For them the screen of a smart phone is apparently preferable to the sight of bouncing jugs in a cafe cum discotheque.

Cafe Nhac Tre is one of many cafes of its type in Ho Chi Minh City. When people muse that the city is filled with coffee shops I often wonder if they recognize the diversity in the venues. After all there are all sorts of coffee shops in Ho Chi Minh City including some like the previously reviewed Tro Lai that don’t even sell coffee at all!

There are street sellers, mom and pop shops, local chains, international chains, and caphe om. There are also coffee shops staffed by attractive women in short skirts that have DJs come in to play dance music like Cafe Nhac Tre 173.

Cafe Nhac Tre 173, 173 Su Van Hanh, Ward 3, District 10, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Open every day from 10:00 am to 11:00 pm. Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/CAFE-NHẠC-TRẺ-173-Su-Van-Hanh-1448172935419109/ Map on Facebook page.
